The McLaren driver triumphed in 1988, 1989 and 1990 at Hockenheim, a circuit known for its long straights that cut through the German Black Forest.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout history, several drivers came close to achieving the same distinction, but none of them were able to do it.\u00a0 Juan Manuel Fangio, for instance, won the German GP in 1954, 1956 and 1957, but the race wasn\u2019t held in 1955, preventing him from wining in three consecutive years. Alberto Ascari, an Italian driver who made his name in the \u201850s, won in 1950, 1951 and 1952, but the 1950 race wasn\u2019t an official Formula One race yet. The GP would become an official part of the category\u2019s calendar in the following year.<\/p>\n<p>Back in Senna\u2019s time, the Brazilian driver\u2019s wins in Germany were crucial to how the 1988, 1989 and 1990 championships turned out.\u00a0 In those three years, Ayrton\u2019s main rival was Alain Prost, and all three times the Brazilian arrived at Hockenheim in second place overall, right behind the Frenchman.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20800\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20800\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.senna.com\/um-recorde-de-senna-imbativel-na-f-1-ate-hoje-3-vitorias-seguidas-na-alemanha\/german-2-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-20800\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-20800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.senna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/german-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.senna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/german-2.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/www.senna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/german-2-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.senna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/german-2-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.senna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/german-2-768x384.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.senna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/german-2-1536x768.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20800\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">German GP &#8211; 1988<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In 1988, Senna won from start to finish, and the gap between him and his rival shrunk from six to three points in the standings. The Frenchman was two points ahead before that GP, but Senna walked out of Hockenheim with a four-point advantage.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0xL4VctfdQU<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, the German GP was left out of the F1 calendar, but the race is scheduled to return in 2018, once again at the Hockenheim circuit. The track\u2019s layout has been modified since Senna\u2019s racing days.
