Since Ayrton Senna was passing through, he stopped his car and ran over to help his colleague. Upon noticing Comas had passed out, but still had his foot on the throttle, Ayrton immediately turned the Ligier\u2019s engine off.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">After Senna administered first aid, the marshals and the medical team arrived at the scene. But Erik himself believes the Brazilian was instrumental in preventing something more serious from happening. \u201cHe turned off the car\u2019s ignition, avoiding an explosion. At that moment, Ayrton Senna saved my life\u201d, said Comas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"contextualExtensionHighlight ms-font-color-themePrimary ms-border-color-themePrimary ident_892_1074\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">The episode \u2013 which took place on August 28, on a free practice Friday \u2013 even inspired a special Allianz Insurance video, released in 2015, to celebrate Ayrton Senna\u2019s 55<\/span><sup><span class=\"contextualExtensionHighlight ms-font-color-themePrimary ms-border-color-themePrimary ident_892_1074\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">th<\/span><\/sup><span class=\"contextualExtensionHighlight ms-font-color-themePrimary ms-border-color-themePrimary ident_892_1074\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">\u00a0birthday.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Campanha da Allianz presta homenagem a Ayrton Senna\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YX7JojgCdwI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Since he was recovering at the hospital, Comas didn\u2019t race in Belgium, but he was back on the track for the following race, at Monza. At Spa-Francorchamps, Senna secured the second spot on the starting grid and even led the race for a while. McLaren had adopted a bold strategy, by not changing the slick tires for wet ones, and Ayrton drove brilliantly, holding his opponents back, but he steadily lost performance because the track took too long to dry up.
