Every time he\u2019s asked about his friend, the first Brazilian driver to ever win an F1 race speaks very fondly of the three-time champion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Even though they\u2019ve never shared a track in the main category in motor sports, both drivers used to meet during the races, especially in the months before the start of the IndyCar season, when Emerson was able to travel around Europe along with the F1 championship,.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Take a look back at a few stories:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">1- Emerson hands Senna the trophy on the podium<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In a story told by journalist Reginaldo \u00a0Leme to Senna TV, Emerson gave Senna the trophy for his win at Hockenheim (Germany) for the Formula Ford 2000 championship, one of F1\u2019s entry categories at the time. On the August 8, 1982, Emerson was interviewed by Reginaldo right after the podium ceremony. Fittipaldi laid out which steps Senna should take next in his career.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cqlnyltRPQU?start=133\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">2- F1 Tire tests at Jacarepagu\u00e1<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Ayrton Senna and Emerson Fittipaldi drove together in F1 for a few days. It took place in January 1984, at the Jacarepagu\u00e1 Raceway, in Rio de Janeiro. While Senna had his first tests with Toleman, before his official debut, the two-time champion had been invited by Spirit \u2013 which also used Hart engines \u2013 to help the team in developing the car.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.senna.com\/parabens-emerson-relembre-algumas-historias-que-uniram-senna-e-fittipaldi\/sennaemersonfittipaldi1984-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-21177\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21177\" src=\"https:\/\/www.senna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/SennaEmersonFittipaldi1984.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.senna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/SennaEmersonFittipaldi1984.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.senna.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/SennaEmersonFittipaldi1984-300x162.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Emerson recalled the episode on a Facebook post, featuring the picture above.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cI was invited by Spirit-Hart to the tire tests at Jacarepagu\u00e1, in January 1984. Beside me, I had newcomer Ayrton Senna, recently signed by Toleman-Hart. We were staying at the same hotel, and went out to dinner every night. Those were days filled with friendship and laughter\u201d, said Emerson.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">3- Fittipaldi and Senna win on the same day<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">On May 28, 1989, Emerson Fittipaldi achieved one of the most important feats in his career: he won the Indy 500, in Indianapolis, \u00a0USA.\u00a0 A few hours later, 2,025 miles away, Senna triumphed at the F1 Mexican GP, leading from start to finish and becoming the season\u2019s points leader.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Take a look back at the final moments of both races, with commentary from Luciano do Valle and Galv\u00e3o Bueno (brazilian).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ta9mwY5TFKs?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0&amp;start=1\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">4- Emerson\u2019s prophecy about Senna<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In a story told to Globoesporte.com\u2019s reporter Felipe Siqueira, Emerson talked about when Ayrton was his best bet to become an F1 driver. In 1981, both champions met at the Austrian GP, and Fittipaldi introduced Senna to several team principals at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cSince Ayrton was so shy, I accompanied him during the Austrian GP and said, \u2018Ayrton, after the practice sessions I\u2019ll introduce you to every F1 team\u2019. Then I surprised him.\u00a0 I went up to everyone and said, \u2018This is Ayrton Senna da Silva, future world champion\u2019 and he got awkward.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a05- IndyCar test in 1992<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_gmail-MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">An iconic story involving Emerson and Ayrton took place when both drivers tested a Penske Indycar in 1992, at the Firebird raceway (USA). Senna still hadn\u2019t renewed with McLaren to race in 1993, and Fittipaldi took the chance to invite him to a test that became the stuff of legend in Roger Penske\u2019s team.
