The Netflix mega-production SENNA, chronicling the life of legendary Brazilian driver Ayrton Senna, took home a statuette at the 2025 Platino Awards, which celebrate the best in Ibero-American audiovisual productions. The ceremony was held on Sunday (April 27) in Madrid, Spain.
SENNA won in the “Best Series Creator” category, honoring Vicente Amorim, Fernando Coimbra, Luiz Bolognesi, and Patrícia Andrade for their outstanding work.
The series was also nominated in three additional categories: Best Miniseries or TV Series (Fiction or Documentary), Best Actor in a Miniseries for Gabriel Leone — who portrayed Ayrton Senna — and Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries for Hugo Bonemer, who played Nelson Piquet.

The series premiered globally on Netflix on November 29, 2024. It quickly became a phenomenon, reaching No. 1 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 for non-English language TV series. Produced by Gullane in collaboration with Senna Brands and the Senna family, the miniseries was directed by Vicente Amorim, who also served as showrunner, alongside Julia Rezende.
In January, SENNA was named “Series of the Year” at the 2024 APCA Awards, presented by the São Paulo Association of Art Critics — one of Brazil’s most prestigious cultural honors, recognizing excellence across 12 different artistic fields.
