Ayrton Senna continued his Formula 1 career with brilliance in 1986, setting a new record for
pole positions with 8. His boldness and dedication were key to his success, even though he was
driving a car that was not the best in the field.
He won the pole position in four races, including the Brazilian Grand Prix, and finished the
season in fourth place overall, with 55 points.
Senna's performance was particularly impressive considering the problems he had with the
Renault engine in his Lotus car. The engine was unreliable and often broke down, but Senna
was able to overcome these challenges and put in some outstanding drives.
In the Brazilian Grand Prix, Senna started from pole position but lost the lead to Nelson Piquet
early in the race. However, he fought back and eventually passed Piquet to win the race.
Senna also won the Detroit Grand Prix and the Portuguese Grand Prix in 1986. He finished on
the podium in 10 of 16 races he competed in, and he was named the Driver of the Year by the
FIA.
Senna's 1986 season was a reminder of his immense talent and potential. He was already one
of the best drivers in Formula 1, and he was only going to get better.
